EDTECH 537 Image: Schoology

Have you heard of the learning management system (LMS) known as Schoology? I had not heard of it until last school year. I was co-teaching with the 7th grade Science teacher and he was using it in his classroom. I was amazed at how well the students picked up on this LMS that was so new to them.

Schoology offers a free basic course management tool that allows teachers to engage students in their learning, communicate with their students, and to share resources with co-workers using Schoology. Schoology allows teachers to upload material and then assess student learning right in the LMS. After teachers have assess the students, they can provide feedback directly to the student.

I am currently designing a workshop for my co-workers on how to use Schoology. If you use it or have used it in the past, I would love to hear about your experience! Please give me your pros/cons and any skills that you think teachers need to successfully use Schoology in the classroom.

    1. I think it is a pretty great FREE resource. They even have a blog component to it that I still have yet to explore. It is definitely worth checking out.

    1. It is very similar to Google Classroom. It is all about your own preference on which to use Google Classroom or Schoology.

  3. I’ve read a couple of articles concerning Schoology recently. All written by teachers who were genuinely pleased with the solution. And so were the students ;) Heard it’s friendly in use and quite intuitive and of course as you wrote for free. It’s getting more and more popular in K12 education I think.

    1. The middle school students tend to enjoy using Schoology. I just saw that they will be offering a new feature, a portfolio. I am very interested in learning how to use this feature in my classroom this school year.

  4. I haven't actually used it, but from my research and knowing others who have, it seems like a great option from what is out there for middle schoolers. I use Google Classroom and love it, and since I'm in charge of all things Google for my district, I'll stick with it, but I'm definitely interested in Schoology.

    1. I completely understand. If I was in charge of all things Google then I would stick with Google Classroom. My school district is open to letting the teachers use whatever resource they are comfortable with. There are many teachers not using any type of LMS. So, I think that my district is pleased when they see teachers trying new things and going out of their comfort zone.

    1. I have come to find that many are active in Google Classroom. Once you become comfortable with one LMS, normally you do not switch to another.
